Types of Bunions

Bunion (hallux valgus)

  • Foot bunions are bumps on the inside of the foot near the big toe
  • Often extremely painful and worsen without proper treatment
  • Typically they are visually apparent. Burning sensation or numbness are common

Tailor's Bunion

  • Tailor's bunion, also know as bunionettes, are on the outside of the foot, at the base of the little toe
  • Symptoms include redness, swelling, and pain at the site of the bump. They can also be non-painful and only visually protrusive

Bunion Treatments

  • Non-surgical treatments are early therapies that can reduce pain but will not get rid of the bunion
  • When surgery is required, Dr. Ravaei utilizes minimally invasive procedures where most patients are able to bear weight immediately after, while little to no evidence is left in terms of scarring
  • The necessary surgery options will be discussed. Some include removing the bump, while others include correcting the bone structure. A couple of examples of bunion surgery are lapiplasty and bunionectomy.
